Antibacterial Therapy Of Infectious Exacerbation Of Copd: Which Antibiotic To Prefer?

We discuss the problem of choice of antibacterial drugs for relief of infectious exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). According to the study of levofloxacin and clarithromycin in the treatment of 72 patients with infectious exacerbation of CORD, microbiological efficacy of levofloxacin was superior to clarithromycin, but clinical efficacy of the drugs was comparable. There were no data confirming the relationship between the duration of the period until the next infectious exacerbation and microbiological effectiveness of antibiotics used for treatment of complicated exacerbation COPD.
