Differential approach to the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms in benign prostatic hyperplasia
The article considers the current approaches to the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The data for etiology, clinic and diagnosis of BPH are presented. The possibilities of alfa1-adrenergic blockers and 5alfa-reductase inhibitors administration in BPH are discussed. The article substantiates methods of combination therapy using alfa1-blocker treatment (short course) and 5alfa-reductase inhibitors, and alfa1-blockers in combination with anticholinergic drugs in patients with BPH with symptoms of overactive bladder. Much attention is given to the treatment of acute urinary retention.
