About macrolides use in lower respiratory tract infections in children
The article provides an overview of the frequency and diagnostic features of infections caused by mycoplasma and chlamydia in children. The importance of clinical diagnosis of such pneumonia and bronchitis bring into focus, because the high rate of carrier state and delayed rising antibody titer aggravate diagnosis in early disease. Clinical manifestations of mycoplasmal pneumonia and bronchitis and pneumonia caused by Chlamydia trachomatis in infants are sufficient for the correct empirical choice of antibiotic. Lack of treatment efficacy of pneumonia by ?-lactam antibiotics is important for further diagnosis. Drug of choice for treatment of "atypical" infections is azithromycin.
