Azithromycin in the treatment of out-patient lower respiratory infections
Azithromycin is oral macrolide antibiotic. The spectrum of antimicrobial activity, pharmacokinetic characteristics and safety profile of azithromycin, as well as long experience of use in clinical practice, the existence of different dosage forms and the feasibility of short course administration make its use as the drug of choice for treatment of outpatient lower respiratory infections - community-acquired pneumonia and exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
