Arterial hypertension in post-menopause: pathogenesis and approaches to therapy
Data for epidemiology of arterial hypertension (AH) in postmenopausal women are presented. We analyzed of modern ideas about the role of sex hormones in the vascular tone regulation, sodium metabolism, renin-angiotensin and sympathetic nervous systems activity, and in the blood vessels and cardiac remodeling. The paper presents literature and our own data review about the peculiarities of hypertension clinical manifestations in postmenopausal women. We described our own experience of postmenopausal hypertension therapy by different classes of antihypertensive drugs (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, diuretics, beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, imidazoline receptor agonists), combination therapy with ACE inhibitors and thiazide diuretics proved high effective.
