Possibilities of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in patients of high cardiovascular risk
In recent years, patient population with high or very high risk of cardiovascular disease has attracted particular attention of medical community. Effective treatment of such patients should consist of pathogenetic-justified regimens, including the blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). The of RAAS blockers, especially angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers have proven positive effects in the atherosclerotic process, vascular remodeling, left ventricular hypertrophy, lipid and glucose metabolism. Thus, it makes it possible to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and to prevent cardiovascular events in high risk patients as has been shown in several randomized clinical trials.
