Ibadronic acid place in the treatment of post-menopausal osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease with great social and economic significance. The main goal of osteoporosis treatment is the prevention of bone fractures. One of the leading drugs belonging to the group of bisphosphonates is ibandronic acid (Bonviva). For the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis it is used in a dose of 150 mg in tablets for the monthly administration and 3 mg intravenously for every quarter. The effectiveness of ibandronic acid on decrease of risk of vertebral and extravertebral fractures, increase bone mineral density is proved in the clinical studies. Ibandronic acid is well tolerated during chronic administration.
